Mindfulness West
Mindfulness West is a mental health service run by health professionals. The Mindfulness-Based Programs offered by Mindfulness West are evidence-based, and combine Mindfulness with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches.
Mindfulness is a non-judgemental way of paying attention to the present moment.
CBT brings awareness to the habitual negative thinking that leads to low mood, anxious states and other difficult emotions.
Mindfulness-based program participants learn self-care strategies to help:
-
shift out of "auto-pilot" states of mind
-
become more aware and less judgemental
-
appreciate small pleasures in every day life
-
learn a new approach to dealing with difficult moods and emotions.
Mindfulness West offers group programs at no cost* to people with a valid BC Care Card #.
We are currently offering Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) groups via Zoom for Healthcare.
Each group runs for 9-weeks, with 2 hours classes held weekly. But at the core of all Mindfulness-Based Programs is daily home practice.
If you are interested in participating in one of Mindfulness West's groups programs, you can ask for a referral from a physician, nurse practitioner, nurse or mental health professional. You will be invited to attend a (required) pre-course appointment when we are planning the next group. We offer only a few groups per year.
We are pleased to partner with other service delivery organizations to provide Mindfulness-Based Programs. Our programs are primarily for people living on Southern Vancouver Island - the in Victoria, Langford, Colwood, Metchosin and Sooke region. Contact us if you would like to join from further afield.
*The Mindful Way Workbook is used in the MBCT and Mindful Self-Care courses. Only some of our partners cover the cost of the workbook.
I learned to take a kinder, more gentle attitude toward myself. I also learned to recognize warning signals and take helpful action.
